Dedication Ceremony, Sportsmans Park, Sunday, October 19, 1:00 p.m.

Ceremony to name the baseball/softball field after the former president of the Arlington Sportsman’s Club and a valued employee of the City of Arlington.  Dan Buck Thomes served as the City’s Street Supervisor for 13 years.  He also managed softball leagues and teams, performed routine maintenance, and organized park improvements.  The softball field at the Arlington Sportsman’s Club was a particular area that “Buck” took great pride in maintaining and using.  He spent countless hours preparing the field for league and tournament games.

And now through the generosity of the Minnesota Twins and local donors, the softball field at Arlington Sportsman’s Park has been receiving improvements and is to be repurposed to provide for youth baseball and softball.  These improvements triggered the Park Committee to reflect on the work “Buck” performed at the field and desire to honor his memory.

The dedication ceremony will be hosted by the Park Committee on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Sportsmans Park.  This is a family event and cookies and cocoa will be served.  Please join Mayor Jim Kreft on Sunday, October 19th to formally name the field after Dan “Buck” Thomes.
