Seeking Volunteers for Blood Drive

The American Red Cross has a need for volunteers for the Arlington Community Blood Drives to hang up posters around town advertising the blood drives and to ask local businesses if they could help promote the drive and perhaps offer a giveaway to donors. If you would be interested in helping out at these blood drives please contact the local Red Cross Account Representative Jillian Turner for specific details. The next Arlington Community blood drive is scheduled for March 10th, 2020 12:30-6:30PM at the Community Center.

Community Development Intern

Salary Hourly – $12.00

Job Posting: General Duties
The City of Arlington is a growing community located on MN Hwy 5 just 45 miles southwest of the Twin Cities. This internship opportunity would provide an individual seeking a career within the field of economic development, planning and zoning, or city administration great experience to boost their resume.
The successful candidate will provide hands-on assistance to the Community Development Director and will assist in preparing agendas and minutes for economic development and planning & zoning, will provide research for both economic development and planning & zoning, assist with various grant applications, DEED applications, update the City’s social media and website. The position will also be responsible for assisting with the Community Center, showing the facility, aiding those interested in renting the facility, updating the events calendar, marketing the facility, billing, and any other tasks assigned by the Community Development Director. Successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively in writing and oral presentations.

This is position is for a total of 400 hours and can be part-time or full-time. There will be evening meetings with this position.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, business administration, urban planning or related field is required. Candidate must have the ability to work at least 20 hours per week, valid driver’s license and good driving record, and ability to pass a background check.
Graduate student in public administration, business administration, or urban planning is preferred.

We are accepting applications for the Arlington Ambulance

The City of Arlington is accepting applications for the Arlington Ambulance.
Paid training to get your EMT certification with 1 year commitment. Must be 18 years old.
Minimum hour requirement 48 hours/month, 12 of which has to be on the weekend (6pm on Friday to 6am Monday).
Minimum of 8 trainings/meetings a year, which occur the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7pm. If you are interested please stop by the Arlington Community Center to pick up an application or click here for the  job application.

SMIF seeking applications for child care start-up and expansion projects

Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation seeking applications for child care start-up and expansion projects
Owatonna, Minn., December 3, 2019 – Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation (SMIF) in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is currently accepting applications to support child care start-up and expansion projects. Child care centers and family child care programs in SMIF’s 20-county region are eligible to apply. Requests of up to $10,000 for child care centers and $2,000 for family child care programs will be considered.
“We are grateful to the State of Minnesota for providing funding to help increase the supply of quality child care in the region, and honored to support this program,” said Rae Jean Hansen, Vice President of Early Childhood at SMIF. “Increasing the number of child care slots in our region is a critical need for working families.”
Applicants are encouraged to consider submissions to support new or existing programs that demonstrate an increase in overall child care slots using the grant dollars. There will be a focus on programs that provide full-time, year-round child care for infants, toddlers, and preschool age children.
To provide additional support for development of grant applications, SMIF will be hosting two online information webinars to provide grant program overview and answer questions from interested parties:

b. Keep Main Street Arlington vibrant and active in coordination with the Chamber
c. Negotiate purchase options for future industrial park

2. Increase housing options, attract new residents and maintain quality of properties

a. Support Choose Arlington
b. Support community events such as scheduling programming at the Gazebo

3. Long-range planning

a. Develop and follow a five year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP)
b. Make improvements to the City’s infrastructure as funds are available including
repairing sidewalks and updating the long range sidewalk plan.
c. Build an IT network and retain documents electronically.
d. Support the EDA in promoting more construction of senior and low income
